Der Krieger – Treptonias Aus Euphortonias

Treptonias ist ein gar stolzer Krieger voller Mut und Selbstvertrauen, der in den Welten von Euphortonias seines Weges zieht. Diese Welt ist gebrandmarkt von einer unmenschlichen Selektion – ausgehend von den Oberen der Gesellschaft. Mithilfe ihrer auf fragwürdige Weise errungenen Machtposition streben sie eine Art neues Utopia an; indem sie die Menschen auf der Grundlage ihrer gradlinigen Herrschaftsweise instrumentalisieren wollen. Entweder man ist ein Befürworter dieser Sichtweise – oder aber ein Gegner des Regimes; was einen schnell zum gejagten macht. Doch es gibt einen einzelnen, der standhaft bleibt – der einsame Treptonias. Ununterbrochen steht er dabei für seine persönlichen Ideale ein – die Schwachen und Armen zu beschützen ist eine seiner höchsten Tugenden. Auch schöpft er eine ungeheure Kraft aus seinem Glauben – doch fühlt er sich hierbei keiner speziellen religiösen Konfession zugehörig. Er lässt sich nicht gerne Dinge vorschreiben, und schon gar nicht althergebrachten Dogmen unterordnen – was ihn auch zum überall gesuchten Regimefeind Nummer eins macht. So wandelt er oftmals einsam seines Weges, streift durch Berg und Tal und genießt die Freuden und die Schönheit der Natur. Er weiss mit Sicherheit, dass es dort oben noch eine andere, große Kraft gibt die auf ihn und alle anderen Menschen herabsieht – in welcher Form auch immer. Man munkelt, dass er stets auf der Suche nach Möglichkeiten eines übernatürlichen Kontaktes ist, weshalb er auch im Runenstudium und im Lesen der heiligen Apokryphen sehr bewandert ist.

Was jedoch nicht heisst, dass er einem gemeinsamen Abend am Lagerfeuer abgeneigt ist, im Gegenteil. Er schätzt diese seltenen Stunden zu zweit oder in der Gruppe, und tauscht hierbei stets viele Weisheiten und Geschichten aus – selbst wenn seine Freunde ihm hierbei meist geistig weit unterlegen sind. Doch diese Gelegenheiten sind ohnehin selten, gibt es kaum noch Orte an denen er sein innerstes ohne Gefahr nach aussen kehren; er einfach er selbst sein kann. Die Gefahr einer Entdeckung, und damit einer Verfolgung und einer anschließenden Verurteilung ist zu groß. Treptonias ist daher auch ein Meister der Verwandlung, und liebt es, seine Mitmenschen an der Nase herumzuführen. Mal erscheint er in der Gestalt eines armen Bauers, ein anderes mal als Mitglied der Herrscherkaste – er vermag es stets, diese imaginären Rollen perfekt auszufüllen. Doch ist es niemals sein Ziel, einem anderen Menschen Schaden zuzufügen. Er weiss, dass ein Großteil der Menschen nicht Schuld ist an der erschreckenden Situation wie sie augenblicklich in Euphortonias vorherrscht. Wäre es blinder Gehorsam, oder eine fehlgeleitete, ausgenutzte Faszination wäre er vielleicht nachdenklich geworden, doch er weiss dass viele Menschen ebenso denken wie er; nach Freiheit dürsten wie er.

Wenn es jedoch, ob unerwartet oder nicht, mal zu einem Gefecht kommt, so verlässt er sich in erster Linie auf seine innere Kraft. Er vermag es, seine Gedanken so zu ordnen, dass er ein unglaubliches Maß an Konzentration erlangt – und in der Lage ist, einen geballten magischen Angriff loszutreten. Bereits diese ungewöhnliche, schier unglaubliche Geisteskraft bringt seine Gegner meist sehr schnell zur Verzweifelung. In der Tat vermag es Treptonias seine Gegner hiermbei wahlweise nur ausser Gefecht zu setzen oder zu töten – wobei er nahezu ausschließlich die erste Variante wählt. Denn es ist nicht sein Ziel zu töten – er möchte die Menschen die fehlgeleitet wurden belehren, bekehren, verändern. Doch er weiss auch, dass er, sollte er eines seiner Ziele erreichen, sich selbst niemals an die Spitze stellen würde. Eine gerechte Herrschaft wäre nur möglich, wenn das Volk direkt involviert wäre, mit ständig wechselnden Personen in der Herrscherklasse und damit auch ständig wechselnden Ansichten. Doch ein manches Mal braucht selbst der kühnste und gerechteste Plan einen kleinen Anstoss.

Es kommt auch vor, dass seine Gegner auf derlei Kräftmessen in geistiger Hinsicht vorbereitet sind. Doch nicht nur sein Glauben und seine Intelligenz zählen zu den Stärken von Treptonias. Wenn sich ein Gefecht hinziehen sollte, weiss er auch im direkten Zweikampf überaus geschickt und gar listig zu agieren. Dies macht seine offensichtlichen Differenzen hinsichtlich seiner körperlichen Stärke wieder wett – er schult lieber seinen Geist und Verstand, als sich so zu verhalten wie die kümmerlichen Muskelmänner des Landes. Auch führt sein überaus eifriges Studium der Geschichte und seine stetige Wissensaneignung dazu, dass er nicht immer auf seinen Konditionszustand achtet. Er konsumiert weiterhin ein recht erhebliches Maß an tabakähnlichen Stoffen – doch ein Schwächling ist er deswegen mit Sicherheit noch lange nicht, auch wenn ihn viele dafür halten. Doch fast ein Jedermann wurde schon eines besseren belehrt, so er denn einmal auf diesen mysteriösen Krieger und Verfechter der Gerechtigkeit getroffen ist.

So fungierte Treptonias desöfteren auch als Seelentröster und verständnisvoller Freund und Zuhörer, der den Menschen klarmachte dass es nicht immer ein richtig oder falsch geben könnte. Man müsse auch die Graustufen erkennen, obschon das Schwarz und das Weiss hierbei immer als Grundlage dienen. Er bleibt ein mächtiger, undurchschaubarer Gegner des Regimes, den man in jedem Falle respektieren sollte. Und, den man eher zu einem kühlen Getränk einladen sollte, als sich mit ihm anzulegen. Denn eines ist sicher: eine Diskussion ist aufgrund seiner Toleranz sinnvoll; ein Entgegenstellen oder ein Kampf aufgrund seiner Überlegenheit jedoch nicht.

Well, maybe this is all referring to the general fascination I have when it comes to japan – as a country and culture, but also as the source for great artistic works like films or music. And, what even makes it better (at least sometimes): when there is a little “crazyness” within, especially from “our” point of view in the western countries. Just imagine, a band like this; here in germany or elsewhere… I do not really now, hehe.

But, these guys from SUG seem to have an even bigger portion of crazyness, as you might get from the video !

Knabenchor Hannover in Concert – 31.10.2009 (Requiem)

Ich habe sehr gegrübelt, wie ich diesen Abend beschreiben soll. Beginnen wir doch einfach mit dem…

- Vorspiel.

Um 18 Uhr waren wir am Funkhaus Hannover des NDR am hannoverschen Maschsee. Im kleinen Sendesaal gab es eine Einführung in das Requiem durch den Komponisten Harald Weiss selber. Schnell war dieser Saal gefüllt. Auf der Bühne war ein Sofa, eine bekannte Moderatorin von NDR Kultur sprach mit dem Komponisten. Dieser erzählte sehr gut verständlich wie es zur Komposition dieses Requiems kam, dass er sich z.B. Schon seit Jahrzehnten mit dem Thema „Tod, und was kommt danach?“ beschäftigt. Einst in seiner Kindheit selbst ein Chorknabe, hat er sein Requiem dem Knabenchor Hannover gewidmet. Zum einen folgt er der Form des alten Requiems, also einer Totenmesse mit ihren lateinischen Texten, zum anderen suchte er weitere Texte aus der Literatur aus, z.B. „Mondnacht“ von Eichendorff, Texte von Hesse, Rilke, Tagore. Der Knabenchor hat ca. 1 Jahr lang dieses Werk eingeübt.

Ein sehr schöner Beginn dieses Werks: ein Knabensopran zusammen mit Röhrenglocken (Tubular Bells). Ein Requiem ist ja eine Trauermusik. Von Trauer halten wir uns gerne fern, wollen so etwas nicht wahrhaben. Und dann Jungen eine Knabenchores mit so etwas „belasten“? Das sind Gedanken, die einem manchmal kommen. Aber es ist weder etwas Neues noch etwas Ungewöhnliches dass ein Knabenchor ein Requiem singt. Was an diesem Requiem anders ist: der Komponist beschränkt sich nicht auf mitteleuropäische Trauertradition, sondern hat in anderen Kulturbereichen geforscht, wie die Frage „Tod – und danach?“ dort gesehen wird.

So ist dieses Werk an keiner Stelle irgendwie bedrückend oder traurig. Gerade die literarischen „Einspielungen“ von Eichendorff, Hesse und Rilke wirken auflockernd, bringen etwas Schönes in die Thematik, rütteln auf, dass Tod kein Feind ist, sondern zum Leben dazu gehört. Wir sehen bei diesem Thema oft schwarz… „Schwarz vor Augen…“

Musikalisch ist dies ein modernes Requiem, aber jeder Komponist orientiert sich an anderen großen Komponisten vor ihm. Ich erlebte dieses Requiem und hörte Teile, die wie klassisches Musik klangen, dann erinnerten mich andere Teile an Carl Orff und weitere modernere Komponisten. Harald Weiss hat natürlich sein eigenes Werk geschaffen, verbeugt sich aber vor seinen Vorgängern in diesem Beruf des Musikers. Dieser erste Teil wird wieder mit dem Knabensopran abgeschlossen.

Teil 2 des Requiems: … und es ward Licht ! Dieser zweite Teil des Requiems beinhaltet folgende Stücke:

Auf den Tod soll man sich rechtzeitig vorbereiten. Das hat nichts mit Lebensmüdigkeit zu tun. Loslassen, sich nicht mit Unnötigem belasten, was man doch nicht mitnehmen kann auf dem Weg ins Licht. Das Düstere der europäischen Trauertraditionen verdunkelt trotz der orientalisch-christlichen Orientierung des Abendlandes immer noch unsere Auffassungen vom Tod und danach. Dem wird textlich ein Beitrag des weltberühmten bengalischen Dichters Rabindranath Tagore entgegengesetzt, der genug Weisheit besaß, über den Tellerrand einzelner Religionen hinauszublicken, die Wahrheit hinter kleinräumigen menschlichen Religionskonstrukten zu sehen.
Musikalisch ist dieser zweite Teil in der Mehrheit ruhiger als der erste, die Seelenaufruhr im Angesicht von Tod weicht einem Aufstieg ins Licht, dass der Mensch nur dann sieht, wenn er endlich seine Augen öffnet. Es waren in Weiss’ Werk wieder klassische Anklänge zu finden, einige „moderne“ atonale Anklänge, dann aber auch Passagen, die mich sehr an die Musik eines Leonard Bernstein erinnerten, in dessen wohl schönstem Werk, seiner Messe(„Mass“). Auch Bernstein als Weltbürger jüdischen Glaubens komponierte weit über die kleinlichen Grenzen unserer Welt hinaus.

Nach meinem Verständnis ist der Höhepunkt des zweiten Teils im o.a. Lux-aeterna-Block zu finden. Drei Texte werden hier zusammengeführt, Gedanken werden von verschiedenen Sängern gesungen und von Instrumenten unterstützt. Der Tod ist keine Horrorgestalt, kein Sensenmann, keine billige Halloween-Figur… NEIN! „Dein Bote ist es“ singt der Knabensopran. Eine Klangpassage aus wenigen Tönen, musikalisch noch einfacher als ein Kinderlied. Aber ungeheuer einprägsam. Diese kleine Tonfolge mit den Worten“Dein Bote ist es“ wurde bei mir zum Ohrwurm. Ein paar Male erwischte ich mich selber dabei, wie ich bei verschiedenen Tätigkeiten diesen Satz vor mich hin sang. Der letzteTeil des Requiems ist dann nur noch der Ausklang, nachdem die Zuhörer eine einfache Weisheit präsentiert bekamen.

So, es ist geschafft. Obwohl ich mir nicht sicher bin, ob alle Leser meinem Bericht über diese Uraufführung folgen können. Ich finde es sehr schwer, über ein solches Werk zu berichten, weil man „dabei“ gewesen sein muss um die Botschaft dieses Werkes zu erfahren. Ich zumindest kann nur Bruchstücke weitererzählen. Dieses Requiem ist nur ganzheitlich erfahrbar.

SCHWARZ VOR AUGEN UND ES WARD LICHT !

It was not easy to write about this. Therefore my report appears here with a great delay.

Prelude. At 6 pm, we were in the broadcasting centre Hannover of the NDR near the Hanoverian lake Maschsee. In the small broadcasting hall there was an introduction to the requiem by the composer Harald Weiss. Quickly this hall filled. On the stage there was a sofa, a well-known presenter of the cultural station „NDR-Kultur“  spoke with the composer. He told in a very comprehensible way how he came about to start composing this requiem. Already for decades he was involved with the theme of „Death, and what comes afterwards?“. Once a choirboy himself, he dedicated his requiem to the Knabenchor Hannover. On the one hand, he follows the scheme of the old requiem with Latin texts, on the other hand he selected other texts from literature, e.g., “Mondnacht(=moonlit nigh)t” by Eichendorff, other texts by Hesse, Rilke, Tagore.

A very nice beginning of this work: a boy’s soprano together with tubular bells. A requiem is funeral music. We normally prefer to keep away from grief, do not want to admit the existence of such a thing. And then confront boys of a boy’s choir with something like that? These are thoughts which sometimes crossed my mind. But it is neither something new or otherwise unusual that a boy’s choir sings a requiem. What is different in this requiem: the composer does not limit himself to Central European funereal traditions, but has done research in other cultural areas, how the question of „death – and afterwards?“ is dealt with. Thus this work is not in any part depressing or sad. Especially the“ inserts“ of literature by Eichendorff, Hesse, Rilke and Tagore have the effect of bringing in some relaxation, introducing some beauty into the topic, rousing us that death is no enemy, but is part of life. We are often pessimistic about this subject… „Black before eyes…“…
Musically this is a modern requiem, but every composer orientates himself towards other great composers before him. With this requiem, I experienced  and heard parts which sounded like classical music, then other parts reminded me of Carl Orff and other more modern composers. Harald Weiss created, of course, his own work and bows to his predecessors in his occupation as a musician. This first part is concluded again with the boy’s soprano.

Part 2 of the Requiem: … and there was Light! This second part of the requiem contain the following pieces:

One should prepare for death in time. This has nothing to do with being tired of life. Letting go, not loading yourself with the unnecessary you cannot take along on the way into light. The gloom of  European funereal traditions, in spite of the Oriental-Christian orientation of the West, still darkens our views of death and afterwards. In opposition to that, a contribution of the world-famous bengal writer Rabindranath Tagore is put into this requiem, by a poet who certainly posessed enough wisdom to „look over the edge of the bowl“ of individual religions, seeing the truth behind small-scale human religious constructs. Musically this second half is quieter in  major parts than the first one, the turmoil of the soul in the face of death gives way to the ascension into light, which can only be seen when you finally open your eyes.
Reminiscence to classical music can be found again in Weiss’ Work, some “modern” atonal moments, also passages which reminded me very much of Leonard Bernstein’s music, in probably his most beautiful opus, his „Mass“. Being a member of the Jewish faith, at the same time a cosmopolite, Bernstein composed beyond the petty borders of our world.

According to my understanding the climax of this second part is to be found in the above mentioned „lux-aeterna-block“. Three texts are brought together here, some thoughts are sung by different singers and supported by instruments. Death is no horror figure, no Grim Reaper, no cheap Halloween figure… NO! „This is your messenger“ the boy soprano sings. A sound passage of a few tones/notes, musically even simpler than a child song. But tremendously impressive. It is this small tune with the words „This is your messenger“ which became a catchy tune for me. In the days afterwards, I caught myself several times singing just this simple tune with its message while being involved in different activities.

The last part of the requiem is only the conclusion, after the audience was presented with an easy wisdom. Well, done at last! Although I am not sure whether all readers can follow the thoughts of my review on this premiere. I find it very difficult to report about such an opus because one has to be present to experience the message of it. I can only pass on fragments. This requiem can be comprehended only in its entirety.

BLACK IN FRONT OF THE EYES…AND THERE WAS LIGHT!

I have to say „Thank you!“to Knabenchor Hannover and its director Professor Breiding, as well as the adult soloists and orchestra musicians for this miraculous performance! Last but not least, special thanks go to the composer Harald Weiss who created a great work. If I take this work as a benchmark, I line him up with great composers of modern and classical times. I am really looking forward to  experience the requiem once again by listening to the double CD which will appear next year.

Relax… Slideshow # 20 – “Anime Legends” (Exclusive)

Err… right now I have to think were I published this one (my newest, by the way) before. It has not been aired in any forum nor any website… wait, there has been one (big) videohoster that had the pleasure. But it did not really matter at all, since almost nobody clicked on it. So I deleted it there – as I said, I am moving everything to this blog. Since there is a difference – if nobody clicks on my videos while there are hosted on a big site – I can only feel frustrated. But if I have them here on my blog and nobody clicks them – well, at least this “my” kind of thingy.

This slideshow is again one of the better ones, so to say a tribute for some good anime series that have been aired within the last years. A nice little side-effect: almost all of these ones have some serious shonen-elements, so if you like that kind of stuff you will definitely enjoy this one. Whatever, since nobody comments on my slideshows I do not know wether you like them or not ! The only thing I can therefore do is keep them coming…

But the time of feeling pissed is over, it only costs important minutes of one’s lifetime I guess. So, watch it or leave it – I do not really care. Such phrases coming from my mouth, pardon; fingers… guess this is the first time. But since this is “my place” here…

Slideshow # 19 – “The Crusaders” (Ready)

You might have noticed that my number 18 is missing in my chronology – but this time it is totally planned ! I have my reasons for it, but to let not come up any speculations; it is just because I want this # 18 to stay totally exclusive.

But who would complain, since I am continuing with posting my personal artwork. And this time we have my official # 19 – “The Crusaders”. Well, nothing much to say about this one – it is a pure fan project for a certain film that you might recognize. Well, you should – since it is a well-known hollywood blockbuster with Orlando Bloom in a leading role. It is one of the few shows in which I am focusing myself on one single film only. Of course, this is not easier at all – it is even more difficult since the material is, so to speak, very “limited”. The toughest thing is the selection of possible scenes, and putting them along nicely to the music (and the songtext).

I did not really do this show to “honour” the film itself… it is a good one, but nothing more. In this case it went the other way round: I first heard the musical piece (performed by a german band named Crystallion), and thought about possible visual scenes to it – since I liked it very much. And then I found this film which fitted EXACTLY (according to the theme and text).

So, sit back and enjoy this one… as a rather unusual show. But I guess I can not “shock” you anymore, there is just too much of a variety in my shows…

We Gaan Naar Zee… ! Well, in about 6 months…

… and maybe not with THOR! (Thor Salden), a young musician and performer from Belgium whom some of you might know from the JESC 2006. But this little song of him makes me feel good, and looking forward to the overall summertime. Well, it maybe just my opinion, but I think that this song (+ video) is the best of him so far !

So, grab a cool drink and relax with THOR ! It is too bad that we have not heard from him ever since this last true single and video… it has already been some time. But it seems like he decided to quit music once and for all… or, will there be a comeback ?

Back To The Roots, E.G. The 80’s !

With a nice little TV-spot I found on my harddisk. It is a short commercial for the merchandise of an 80’s cartoon series that I totally adored: The Centurions. Something like “man and machine, Power Xtreme…”. Haha, I just loved this stuff. By the way, this has been my first english series ever, so you can see that I started early… too bad that there is no german synchro ! But on the other side… maybe even better, since it is more exclusive… nostalgia to the fullest.

Slideshow # 17 – Land Beyond The Sea (Exclusive)

Well, this is my newest artwork. A slideshow about great films and great actors – indeed a timeless one. Just like my other works, this slideshow is offering something new and impressive for everyone of you. I am improving from time to time, even though I have to state that I – personally – think that I already reached a certain level of perfection. At least I do not know anyone who produces a comparable output !

All You Need To Know About Evangelion 2.0…

Are these three trailers. Of course, there would be one thing to follow: the film itself. But it is almost unpredictable when it will be released here in Europe, since they do not state anything on the official website or on UFA Anime (the guys who published Evangelion 1.0 in Germany).

So, all we (as fans) can do is wait – and watch these three trailer which are very, very promising. By the way, someone gave me a link to somekind of camrip-version of Evangelion 2.0 – well, I do not need to say that I can and wil not watch such a film in such a poor quality. And especially when it comes to Evangelion I always have to say: BUY IT when it is available (and: you would not regret it)… !

So, no matter what the DVD will cost, I will buy it right away on its release date. I just hope that it will once again be a nice steelbook like the first one… but for now to the three trailers I collected for you (by the way, all of them include very nice music):

Beware… Rough Stuff With My Slideshow # 16

… Called “The Last Legion”.

Well, as one might already catch by this title, this one is one-film slideshow, e.g. a little tribute to Thomas Sangster and the film “The Last Legion“. The reason why I said “beware” is the thing with the music – well, some of you might already say that this is not even such a thing. So, if you generally are not into metal (this time: kind of harsh folk metal), you should rather try to catch the artistic effect of it…

For those who are interested, the title is called “Bragarful“, performed by one great band named “XIV Centuries“. Of course, do not interpret too much – generally I am against war (in any form), and I do not listen to this music like every day. You could referr to it as an experiment – I just like to produce a lot of different stuff with different moods (without always holding to the “message” that a slideshow could have for some of you).

So, turn up the speakers (carefully), and try to enjoy this one… I published it before, but somewhere else. As I said, I am now trying to complete my slideshow chronology here… !
