His appeareance in “Two brothers“ was one of the first real things, referring to his role.
Not yet playing a leading role in this; he convinced as young Raoul, starring as the son of a governor couple living in Cambodia. Set in the early 20th century; this film is dealing with a fortune looking huntsman, who one day finds a tiger family in some ancient ruins. After killing the father, he managed to get one of the baby tigers into his custody; later on he sells the animal to a circus. The mother and the one brother got away; but they are being discovered shortly after. And that is just when we can first see young Freddie Highmore, who fells in love with that one tiger baby his father brought him – one of the two brothers. Of course, this film is mainly focusing on the animal relationships within the tiger family. Beautifully shot, this flick certainly is a great and entertaining experience for the whole family.

“Finding Neverland“ is a very touching piece, with Freddie Highmore starring in a
leading role of major importance. Employing with the life of famous author J.M. Barrie, this film is describing the influences which inspired him to do his main work, the story about Peter Pan. Freddie Highmore is playing young Peter, who lives together with his 3 brothers and widowed mother; apparently being the child with the biggest problems. It seems that he never worked up the death of his father, withdrawing himself of the rest of the family. It is most touching to see how J.M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) manages to bring back a certain soulfullness into this torn apart family; mainly with the overall power of inspiration and belief. And of course: this film would not be what it is if there were not so many talented actors in it. Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet; the children (first of all Freddie Highmore) – a very touching masterpiece; not showing any sloppy sentimentally – what one might think in the first place.

“Five Children and It“ is a timeless fairytale, introducing a dragon-like mythical
creature living on a beach (a so called “Psammead“, referring to the original idea of the author E. Nesbit), which only is accessible through a secret door within the property of the the family the 5 children are visiting. Working with a lot of symbolism here; the film is basically about children’s dreams and dealing with familiar losses. Freddie Highmore plays young Robert, who has to deal with the absence of his father, finally discovering the “Psammead” who seems to be granting ones wishes… at least one per day. So the 5 children have to decide… this one will leave you with a laugh and a tear.

To be honest: who does not know about this film ? Not even that old, “Charlie And The
Chocolate Factory“ seemed to made it’s way into the standard christmas program. And I am glad it did. Being very colourful; and sometimes rather ackward, this film simply covers the true spirit of the things that matter most; in a rather unusual way. Some children who come into the pleasure of visiting the mysterious chocolate factory of Willy Wonka (brilliantly played by Johnny Depp) after finding their golden tickets, being sorted out one by one… Freddie Highmore is starring as the one poor child, whose family does not have much besides solidarity – finally being the one with the purest heart, deserving the special price… It is just remarkable to see these two actors (J.Depp, F. Highmore) working together again.

“August Rush“ is one of the latest films I have seen in cinema recently. Freddie Highmore is playing one musically
gifted child, who had been given away by his parents, living in an orphanage for several years… feeling this certain universal, and of course: musical bond between himself and his parents, he one day runs away – full of hope to finally become reunited with his parents again. If you like, you can read my review here. Freddie Highmore in his best and most moving film appearance ever – at leat that is what I think. Even though the film could not really convince me at all…

To state this here: I have not seen “Arthur and the invisibles” yet. I being very sceptical concerning this one, since it is mainly a completely animated film; only having a few real scenes in the beginning. And I do not call myself a big fan of such films… we will see, maybe I will give this one a look, too.

He is one of my favorite actors as well. His acting in Finding Neverland was remarkable and I am looking forward to watch August rush too.
Yes, concerning his young age age he had already done some remarkable stuff. By the way, I just set up the title yet (in advance); there sure is some more information to follow when I find the time. Stay tuned
